It is said to be the city of love and is widely regarded as one of the most romantic places in the world, so if you're visiting Paris, you will surely want to make the most of your stay and book into one of the many fabulous five star Paris hotels available. However, despite the luxury of your hotel room, you must make the effort to get out and about and experience all that this exhilarating city has to offer.

Even if they have never been to Paris, most people could reel off a dozen or so of the famous attractions that this beautiful city has to offer. To name just a few, you really shouldn't miss the Eiffel Tower, the church of Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre or Sacre Coeur, but Paris has many more jewels in its crown and, if you have the time, there are some little known delights slightly off the usual tourist track that are well worth a visit. In fact, there really is so much to see in Paris that it's a good idea to plan your itinerary before you leave, especially if you're only going for a weekend break.

Art lovers are particularly well provided for here and it would be possible to spend a whole week in the various museums and art galleries. The Pompidou Center (or the Beaubourg as it is known locally) is not only a colorful and striking modern building, with all its functional elements, such as plumbing and heating ducts situated on the outside, but also a large museum of modern art. It houses famous works from various art movements, such as Fauvism, Surrealism and Cubism. The Louvre is another 'must see' museum, housing amongst many other things, the Venus de Milo and da Vinci's Mona Lisa. The Musee de Cluny is home to some of the finest works of art from medieval Europe, including the famous, The Lady and the Unicorn tapestry and the Musee d'Orsay has 19th and 20th century art, housed in an impressive disused railway station.

Visiting a graveyard on your vacation may seem like a strange thing to do, but Paris has some huge and fascinating cemeteries, with splendid Gothic architecture and statues. The Pere-Lachaise cemetery is perhaps the most famous of these and is the final resting place of many famous people from throughout history. Here you'll be able to visit the graves of Oscar Wilde, Honore de Balzac, Bizet, Chopin and Rossini. A walk down the many avenues of tombs and graves is a strangely atmospheric and solemn experience, worthwhile in its own right, but along the way you'll recognize many other famous names such as Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Isadora Duncan and Sarah Bernhardt. If a visit here has given you a taste for the slightly macabre, you may also enjoy a trip to the Catacombs, a vast network of underground tunnels, originally Roman limestone quarries that were utilized after the French Revolution to house the remains from destroyed tombs. The Catacombs run extensively under much of Paris and were used as shelters by the French Resistance during World War II. Only a small portion of them is now open to the public and you can see walls of stacked bones and skulls. It may not be to everyone's taste, but a visit here is a unique and eerie experience as well as a reminder of the city's historical heritage.

At the end of a day sampling the varied attractions here, you will want to retire to one of the five star Paris hotels, which can be found in abundance. As you would expect in Paris, you can enjoy gourmet French cuisine in beautiful restaurants or a relaxing cocktail in the bar. Some hotels offer additional services such as delivering complimentary newspapers to your room, or providing free coffee in the lobby. You may find bathrobes, slippers and complimentary toiletries in your en-suite bathroom, or your own private jacuzzi. In all hotels of this caliber you will find an unsurpassed level of comfort and luxury, with additional touches to make your stay here extra special. So what's stopping you? The city of love and five star Paris hotels are waiting to give you the unforgettable experience of a lifetime.
